It’s no surprise that Facebook’s newest acquisition was in the mobile sector, as the social network has placed much of its focus there due to the skyrocketing percentage of users accessing it via mobile.

Spool launched in September 2011 with the goal of making any Internet content — text, audio, and video — available via mobile devices by using its application, browser add-on, or bookmarklet.

Spool’s first announcement on its blog Saturday dealt with shutting down its service:
