Spellbind Studios Announces Rogue Wizards for Mobile

Rogue WizardsIndependent developer Spellbind Studios has announced its development of Rogue Wizards, a rogue-like, dungeon-crawling, town-building RPG for iOS and Android devices, as well as Windows and Mac. In development for over a year, Rogue Wizards sees players taking on the role of a wizard, investigating the cause for the appearance of a series of portals that have opened around the world.

In Rogue Wizards, players travel through procedurally generated dungeons, collecting weapons and other loot that’s also procedurally generated (no two weapons or dungeons are alike). In each dungeon, players tap to move around the world, breaking barrels, opening doors, and otherwise interacting with the environment. Users have a hot bar which contains their weapons and magical spells, and players will collect stronger weapons and stronger spells as they explore each level of a dungeon and defeat enemies.

Back on the world map, players can accept quests from the tavern and build new structures to unlock additional gameplay elements. In an early demo of the game, we were able to build a store for selling excess loot, for instance.Rogue WizardsIn addition to finding random upgrades and items while exploring dungeons, users can also build magic altars that upgrade the player’s magical abilities, or craft materials at a cauldron to create more potions, like healing potions, to take into combat.

“Rogue Wizards is a game that I’ve dreamed of creating for a long time,” said Spellbind Studios founder Colin Day, in a release. “With the help of a team of seasoned games industry professionals who have worked on successful titles and series such as Diablo 3, Marvel Heroes, Command & Conquer, Might and Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic, and Mechwarrior Mercenaries, to help me see through my passion, I’m confident that we will deliver to fans a memorable and rich experience they will enjoy for years to come.”

Rogue Wizards is currently part of a Kickstarter funding campaign. The campaign is seeking $70,000, and will end on November 12, 2014. The game is expected to launch on Mac and Windows in early 2016, with a release on iOS and Android coming after.

“We thank everyone in advance for their time, consideration, and pledges,” Day adds. “Without a doubt, we appreciate everyone who has taken the time to spread the word about Rogue Wizards to friends who love supporting great games and the developers who create them.”
