When the New York Times sold off its Regional Media Group to Halifax, the natural assumption was that many of the staffers on the 16 papers that were part of the deal wouldn’t be retained. However, some are already getting much better news. The Atlantic Wire received an anonymous email from a staffer on one of those papers, and that person had received a pleasantly surprising note offering employment:
Dear Regional Media Group Colleague,
On Tuesday, Dec. 27, you received an announcement from Michael that the Regional Media Group is being sold to Halifax Media Holdings LLC. We are pleased to inform you that Halifax has informed us that they will be offering you employment.
We are alerting you via e-mail as many people are out of the office due to the holidays and we wanted to be certain that you received this information quickly.
Should you have any questions, please speak with your publisher.
It’s weird that the Regional Media Group sent this and not Halifax, and the wording is a tad bit underwhelming, but hey, at least this shows some staffers are being kept aboard despite the sale. Does this mean a happy new year is ahead? Let’s hope so.
