Society of Professional Journalists Announces Sunshine Award Recipients

SPJThe Society of Professional Journalists today announced the recipients of its Sunshine Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations for their contributions to open government. To be recognized at the SPJ President’s Installation Banquet at Excellence in Journalism 2014 on Sept. 6, 2014 will be The Guardian US, the Center for Public Integrity, Robert Freeman and Kathryn Foxhall.

In it’s announcement, SPJ highlighted The Guardian US’s efforts, with Edward Snowden, to expose the work of NSA; Freeman’s commitment to ‘educating any who ask for his help in regards to freedom of information laws;’ CPI’s Consider the Source, which examined campaign finance records; and Foxhall’s ‘dedication and passion for opening the federal government.’
