Social platform Ning today launched a set of more than 90 applications designed to allow Ning Networks creators to make apps instantly available to members.
Ning Apps will enable Ning Networks to offer a number of features and services, including the ability to sell merchandise or tickets, mobile video streaming, instant custom polls, a Twitter term tracker and virtual collaborative workspaces. The largest category of apps, though, is Fun & Games, which features 48 items (including an unhealthy amount of poker).
Here’s the Ning Apps Directory. All creators have to do is type in their Ning Network URL on the directory page to begin installing apps.
Ning has more than 33 million registered users and 1.5 million Ning Networks.
In a prepared statement, Ning SVP of business operations Jason Rosenthal, said, “People are looking for more ways to express themselves and organize around their interests and passions online and Ning Apps further extends the power of the Ning Platform as a way to facilitate that creativity.”
Company officials said Ning Apps is based on the OpenSocial standard, a set of common APIs for building social apps across the Web. Prospective Ning App developers can find Ning App resources, including API documentation, sample code, and discussion forums, here.
As TechCrunch has reported, the company launched a beta version of Ning Apps in May.
