More Teens are on Tumblr than Facebook or Instagram, Survey Finds (SocialTimes) Facebook is starting to show its age, according to a recent survey of younger social media users. The shocker? Tumblr was the most popular network, beating out not only Facebook, but also its newly acquired image-sharing site, Instagram. BuzzFeed That is not good for Facebook, and it's hard to imagine how they could turn that number around, especially with sites like Snapchat appearing out of nowhere. Another takeaway, which perhaps should have been obvious: Every social network is used more by teens than by young adults. NBC Garry Tan, a tech investor and former cofounder of Posterous, used Survata, a startup, to do the survey, and it's based on 1,038 respondents. Survata cofounder Aaron Wenger wrote, "Usage levels were higher among 13- to 18-year-olds than 19- to 25-year-olds for every social network. The biggest differences were for Snapchat (13 percent for 13- to 18-year-olds versus 4 percent for 19- to 25-year-olds) and Instagram (21 percent versus 11 percent)." CNET Some might say that one indication of an irreversibly bad brand is when it tries to make as much money out of its customers any way it can, even if begins to annoy those customers. That, of course, would never describe a free and bounteous service like Facebook. Facebook Shares Cross $30, Highest Price in Six Months (Inside Facebook) In related news, Facebook shares Wednesday closed at $30.59, up 5.26 percent, and it's the first time the stock passed the $30 mark since mid-July 2012. Facebook has gone as low as $17.73 a share in the past six months, but has been looking up since major IPO lock-up periods passed and new revenue opportunities emerged. Forbes Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg appears to have become more focused on driving revenue from Facebook’s 1 billion users, moving to monetize Instagram, Facebook’s payment system, and other areas. AllFacebook The social network emailed invites this week for a press event at its headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., Jan. 15, but what is it all about? The only clue the invitation offers is this sentence: "Come and see what we’re building." By making available an additional 195 megahertz in the 5 gigahertz band, the FCC will boost speeds of the fastest, highest capacity Wi-Fi connections, called Gigabit Wi-fi, by as much as 35 percent, Genachowski said.
