eBay unveiled a Pinterest-inspired redesign, which gives every user a personalized “feed” of products up for sale, on Wednesday at an event in New York City’s Meatpacking district. Devin Wenig, president of eBay Marketplaces, said it’s one part of the site’s new features to make shopping more personal and social. eBay also rolled out a new logo and deals. USA Today The Feed lists brands that users follow and makes suggestions based on their browsing history and past purchases. It rolls out to U.S. customers over the next 100 days, with international launches beginning in early 2013. CNET In addition, eBay launched a new app, eBay Now, for same-day delivery service. It’s currently available only in San Francisco, Calif., but more cities will follow, a spokesman said. Shoppers can order items from a variety of retailers — Finish Line, GNC, Home Depot, Macy’s, Office Depot, RadioShack, Target, Toys R Us and Walgreens — and get them delivered to their door, usually within an hour. The Next Web As for the site redesign, it’s live, but certain aspects, including the new product pages, should become available soon. Noteworthy site improvements include the new one-page checkout process, much deeper PayPal integration and a generally clearer visual hierarchy. Fast Company eBay has come a long way from its origins as a destination for collectors of the kitschy, nichey and hard-to-find. Today, its competitors include everyone from Amazon to Etsy to Fab, and it drives more than $70 billion in sales annually.

How to Make Your Phone Number More Private on Facebook (Los Angeles Times)
Facebook has restricted phone number searches on its mobile site after a security researcher was able to find Facebook users by searching random phone numbers. Facebook said being able to look someone up by searching for their phone number on Facebook is a feature, not a bug. The Next Web On Friday, a researcher named Suriya Prakash claimed that the majority of phone numbers on Facebook are not safe. It’s not clear where he got his numbers from (he says 98 percent, while another time he says 500 million out of Facebook’s 600 million mobile users), but his demonstration certainly showed he could collect countless phone numbers and their corresponding Facebook names with very little effort. If you want to change your settings to make your phone number and email more private, the solution is to change your privacy settings under a section called “How You Connect.” To limit those who can perform a reverse look-up against your phone number and email, you have the option to change the setting to “Friends of Friends” or “Friends Only.”

Reddit’s Internet 2012 Bus Tour Stops in Gateway City of St. Louis (SocialTimes)
The Internet 2012 bus tour by the folks at Reddit pulled into the gateway city of St. Louis on Tuesday spreading the message of an open and free Internet – and highlighting tech start-ups along the way who are taking advantage of all that the Web has to offer. The tour launched last week in Denver, Colo., home of the first presidential debate and concludes Thursday night in Danville, Ky., when vice president Joe Biden and GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan square off.

Kickstarter UK Will Launch on Oct. 31 (The Verge)
Earlier this year, Kickstarter said that the service would launch in the United Kingdom this fall, and Wednesday the crowdfunding platform announced that this launch will take place on Oct. 31. Users can begin building their projects now, but they will not be able to push them live until the service’s official UK launch at the end of the month.

Clothing retailer Old Navy thought of a creative way to reward its Facebook fans, who recently hit the 5 million mark. To do so, ad agency CP+B made the fans part of the celebration, having many of them hold up a giant coupon barcode in an aerial photograph.

In an effort to reveal the extent of political ad spending that occurs in key television markets, ProPublica has put together one of the most ambitious crowdsourcing projects in recent memory and learned a thing or two about how to encourage crowd participation. In a nutshell, the project is designed to aggregate information about spending by nonprofit groups and super-PACs (which in many cases are set up for that exact purpose) on political TV ads in various regional markets across the United States in the run-up to the federal election.

Twitter Says its Ads Make Money for Politicians (AllThingsD)
A new study from Twitter and Web traffic tracker Compete says its numbers prove that tweets can lead directly to political donations. The report shows, among other statistics, that Twitter users in general are 68 percent more likely to visit a campaign donation page than the rest of Web surfers.
