Obama Likes Facebook to Announce Immigration Speech (USA Today) It's not every day that a president makes a major announcement on social media. President Obama took to Facebook on Wednesday to announce his rollout plan for new immigration executive orders. The Wall Street Journal/Washington Wire The White House released a video on the social network previewing his immigration plans and announcing an 8 p.m. primetime address scheduled for today. And in under one hour, the White House reported that the video reached more than 1.2 million people — meaning it was seen by 1.2 million people on Facebook — racking up 227,000 video views and 12,000 shares in that time period. The Washington Post "Tomorrow night I'm going to be announcing here from the White House some steps I can take to start fixing our broken immigration system," Obama said in the video. "Everybody agrees that our immigration system is broken. Unfortunately Washington has allowed the problem to fester for too long. So what' I'm going to be laying out is the things I can do with my lawful authority as president to make the system work better even as I continue to work with Congress and encourage them to get a bipartisan, comprehensive bill that can solve the entire problem." The Hill Obama invited Democratic leaders to the White House on Wednesday night for dinner to discuss the action he'll take, along with a "couple other priorities," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said. In all, 18 members of Congress were invited to the White House, according to Earnest.
