The Windows Phone community finally has an Instagram application to call its own. The Facebook-owned photo-sharing network announced on its blog that Instagram for Windows Phone will be available for download via the Windows Phone Store. Mashable The breakout app that established itself on iPhone before spreading to Android in 2012 is now on the third-place platform in mobile. “[Instagram] is something our users have definitely been super interested in getting on the phone,” said Todd Brix, general manager of the Windows App Store, “primarily because a lot of the proposition for consumers on our [platform] is the great built-in camera experience. Having the number one social-networking-plus-photo application on the platform is a great thing.” GigaOM Windows Phone photographers will no doubt be overjoyed they no longer have to rely on third-party apps to get their selfie fix. Unfortunately, this version seems more like Instagram-lite. You can’t use the app itself to take pictures, you can’t tag people in photos and you can’t upload video. It also only works with Windows Phone 8, so Windows Phone 7 users are out of luck. BetaBeat In its blog post, Instagram explained that the app isn’t complete. “We’re not finished, and our team will continue developing the Windows Phone app to keep releasing features and bringing you the best Instagram possible.” VentureBeat Instagram rightfully could have been waiting to see how Windows Phone would do in the market and may even still be waiting to see how the app is received before fleshing it out with all the features available to Android and iOS.

Pinterest Adds Place Pins for Better Travel Planning (Mashable)
Pinterest added a new type of pin called Place Pins Wednesday, enabling users to map out the locations of all the items they share on their pinboards. For example, if a user pins a photo of a burger from a local restaurant in her neighborhood, she can also add the restaurant’s location to a map on her board. With these locations, users can better create pinboards for trip planning and highlighting hotspots in their particular neighborhood, according to Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann. The Next Web As it moves into the new year, Pinterest says that it is focusing on helping people plan trips. It makes sense too — Silbermann says that 1.5 million travel-related pins are added every day with a total of 750 million place pins. He adds that people are sharing specific points of view, places to go and other things to do. CNET Pinterest has also been expanding its relationship with outside brands eager to leverage the site’s audience. Last week, the company announced that it would partner with brands like Target, Whole Foods and Disney to display top “pinned” items on their websites. The initiative is made possible by API tools that the company recently shared with partners.

BuzzFeed Launches A GIF Feed Sponsored By Google+ (TechCrunch)
It’s actually not a standard editorial page but rather a promotional campaign sponsored by Google+ as a way to show off its Auto Awesome feature, which creates GIFs. Facebook Confirms Enhancements to Post Scheduling, Photo Uploading (AllFacebook)
Facebook officially announced the improvements to the post-scheduling process that began leaking out last week, as well as an easier way for page administrators to upload photos. Facebook says: “To make it simpler to schedule posts, we’ve shortened the process for scheduling a post from 12 steps to four.”
