Social Media Boosts Chances for Internships

InternMatch.com, a headhunter for student internships, found that using social media during the internship search ups the chances of getting interviews and, ultimately, the privilege of working for free.

For the “Kill the Cover Letter” campaign, candidates used Twitter, Facebook, and other tools to apply for internships instead of the standard cover letter and resume. According to InternMatch, more than 50 percent had multiple interviews and more than 30 percent actually got an internship. The site says these figures are higher than that those going the traditional route.

Moreover, the test found that those who used social media tools usually went a step further, which can lead to other opportunities.
