More than 9 in ten charities in the United Kingdom have a presence on Twitter, with a majority using the platform more frequently than Facebook, reveals a new study.
Social Misfits Media surveyed 250 UK charities and social enterprises about their social media activity and found that 94 percent were active on both Twitter and Facebook, compared to 70 percent and 75 percent respectively in 2012.
However, when asked which social media platform their organisation used most frequently, 60 percent of respondents selected Twitter, compared to 40 percent who cited Facebook.
The report also noted that in 2013 £2.4 billion ($3.8 billion) was donated online and via mobile in the UK alone, which means that a quarter of all philanthropic donations made in the UK came directly from websites, social media and apps.
