Snapbucket Photo Sharing App Provides More Effects

I use picplz to add effects and share photos from my Android phone, but Photobucket’s new Snapbucket app may take over as primary photo app on my Nexus S. Snapbucket has many more filters and effects than picplz, which enable you to be much more creative with the pictures you take on your Android phone.

Photobucket is a photo storage and sharing site that competes with Flickr, and Snapbucket automatically stores photos to a Photobucket account. If you don’t have a Photobucket account you can create one in Snapbucket, which guides you through the process the first time you take a picture. Snapbucket shares pictures with Facebook and Twitter, but unforutnately not with Dropbox, which is one feature I really like about picplz as I use the Dropbox feature to backup pictures to my PC.

One thing to note about how Snapbucket share pictures is that it posts a link to the edited picture in your Photobucket account, and the link provides access to your entire photo album. Picplz creates a unique picture link that only allows the viewer to see that picture and no others. You might want to keep this in mind if you have pictures in your Photobucket account that you don’t want everyone to see.

Snapbucket has five different ways to edit pictures. Sets is a group of predefined combination of filters, effects, and frames. If you don’t like the predefined sets you can select your own filters, effects, vignettes, and frames. Snapbucket will save the custom sets that you create from all of the options.

As you use Snapbucket you will unlock more filters to use on your photos, which adds a badge-like reward process to using the app. The new filters come quickly as I earned two after the first two pictures I took in Snapbucket.

An iPhone version of Snapbucket will be released soon, while the Android version is available now in the Android Market.
