My initial reaction to reading this item in Information Week…
…was: “It is probably just a website glitch”. But, here we are 10 hours later and the situation has not changed. The article notes that Skype’s website notes the app withdrawl saying the Windows Mobile Skype app was not up to par with the apps they provide for other platforms (the iPhone is specifically mentioned).
This doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I’ve tried Skype’s Windows Mobile app and it seemed to work as well as could be expected. It didn’t seem subpar to me. My only criticism was the low sound quality I heard. But, that might be more factor of the phone’s microphone hardware.
Could it be that Skype simply considers Windows Mobile irrelevant? Has Windows Mobile phones joined the TRS-80, Atari 800, and Apple II as a once important platform that is no longer worth supporting?
