Skylanders Battlecast Card Battle Game Announced for Mobile

The game will see players collecting real-world cards, which can be 'brought to life' and used in battle on their smartphone or tablet.

Activision Publishing has announced Skylanders Battlecast, a card battle game for mobile devices, which will allow players to collect real-world cards and bring them to life using their mobile devices.

Skylanders Battlecast will offer a single-player campaign as well as player-vs-player battles, and will see players collecting cards to create a team and deck for battle. Players can purchase real-world cards and scan them into the game using their device’s camera, and will also have the option of purchasing digital card packs within the game.

In addition, players can scan two character cards to create animated duels, allowing them to ‘physically interact’ with their characters.

In a statement, Josh Taub, senior vice president of product management at Activision Publishing, commented:

We are bringing physical cards to life in an exciting new way. Activision has assembled a team of experts across video game design, physical card game design, pro card players and top card artists to develop an amazing new experience. With Skylanders Battlecast, fans can expect the amazing creativity, innovation and fun that Skylanders games are known for delivering.

Skylanders Battlecast is expected to launch in 2016 on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. The next main installment in the Skylanders franchise, Skylanders SuperChargers, is also headed to mobile, and will release this year.
