Sirius Surpasses 5M Subscriber Mark

Regulars like Mr. T and Beetlejuice have followed Stern to Sirius

Sirius announced today it has surpassed 5,000,000 subscribers — 5,119,308, to be exact — more than double the nunber of subscribers it had a year ago. Of course, a year ago the satellite radio company did not yet have its mantlepiece, Howard Stern, who moved to Sirius in January.

Meanwhile, rumors of Stern’s move back to terrestrial radio seem to have subsided. Last month, John Mainelli, a New York Post writer who reported the rumor, left the paper after Stern’s camp pointed out Mainelli’s conflicting sideline gigs consulting for radio stations.

Sirius says it expects to hit target of 6,000,000 subscribers by the end of the year.
