ShoWest circles the wagons

Over in Vegas, our nation’s brave theatrical exhibitioners have gathered for ShoWest, their annual convention. As you might expect this year, the mood is gloomy. Some sample quotes from just one press account:

“Let’s work together to explain to your local governments to support and preserve the motion picture business.” (MPAA chair Dan Glickman)

“One thing we should all be losing sleep over is changing consumer habits.” (United Pictures International president Andrew Cripps)

“Young people now can’t sit still for that long” (Vue Entertainment CEO Tim Richard, re: ‘King Kong’)

“We’re probably going to have to take a page from comedy clubs and institute a two-popcorn-bucket minimum.” (Okay, I made that up, but it’s coming, trust me.)
