Shipping Delayed on Next5, Next6 Android Tablets

A new pair of tablets showed up on a retail website this week, but sadly, they haven’t actually shipped yet.

The Next5 and Next6 are  7″ Android tablets from E-Fun, a subsidiary of Yifang, a Chinese tablet maker. According to my source with E-Fun, the J&R electronics store wasn’t supposed to list the tablets yet for the simple reason that Yifang hasn’t actually shipped them yet.

The Next6 is your ordinary 7″ tablet running Android v2.1 on a 600MHz CPU with a capacitive touch screen, 4GB Flash, SD card slot, and Wifi. It’s tied to the Borders eBookstore, but you can install other reading apps. retail is $229, which is rather high when compared to the rest of the market.

The Next5, on the other hand, is not your average 7″ tablet. It’s also running Android v2.1 on a dual core 600MHz CPU with 2GB Flash, SD card slot, Wifi, speaker, and microphone. It’s also tied to the Borders eBookstore, but you can install other reading apps. What makes the Next5 special is that pen you seen in the picture.  You can write on the tablet of paper at right (or any other paper) and the next5 will record your scribbles. Pretty cool, huh? Retail is $199.
