Sony Computer Entertainment America has released Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus on iOS and Android devices, offering endless runner gameplay starring everyone’s favorite Lombax and robot Ratchet and Clank.
Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus is the companion app to the Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus console game, which was released on Playstation 3 in November. Before the Nexus sees players hovering and rail-grinding their way into the distance, with a setup similar to Subway Surfers or Temple Run.
Players swipe left or right on the screen to move Ratchet between three lanes, and must avoid a variety of hazards as they collect bolts. Offering a twist on the traditional endless runner setup, Before the Nexus also features a combat system, as players can spend bolts on ammunition and new weapons, and then fire those guns at enemies on the screen by tapping on creatures as Ratchet moves forward.
The more bolts players collect, the more gadgets and other upgrades they’ll be able to afford, including bolt magnets, bolt multipliers and shields, among others. Console gamers are also encouraged to collect Raritanium as they play, which can be synced over to Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus on PS3, using a player’s PSN account.
Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus is now available to download for free on iOS and Android. The game offers microtransactions in the form of bolt packs, which can be purchased with real money and then spent on Raritanium or upgrades.
