Scary: Russian Bride Site Gets Social for Halloween

Of all the sites that are taking inspiration from Pinterest, perhaps the scariest we've seen is that of the international online dating network dream-marriage.com, which specializes in matching Western men with Eastern European women, aka mail-order brides. This month, the site will distribute a new picture of one of the brides-to-be on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest every week leading up to Halloween.

Of all the sites that are taking inspiration from Pinterest, perhaps the scariest we’ve seen is that of the international online dating network dream-marriage.com, which specializes in matching Western men with Eastern European women, aka mail-order brides.

This month, the site will distribute a new picture of one of the brides-to-be on FacebookTwitterGoogle+ and Pinterest every week leading up to Halloween. According to the release, the pictures can be downloaded and used as wallpaper for a desktop or laptop computer.

“We want our clients to do much more than just sit at a computer and ogle profile pictures of extraordinarily beautiful Russian women,” explained Dream-Marriage social media manager Malcom Davies in a statement. “Online dating is supposed to be fun, which is why we have been busy at work, figuring out ways to make people come out of their shells.”

The site’s social media strategy includes plenty of hashtags, pictures, videos, and Google+ hangouts, for those who are interested in that sort of thing.

But for now, people seem very much confined to their shells. There are not a lot of comments, likes, or shares on any of the sites. Facebook has the most activity so far — it’s also the most private network.

Trick or treat? We have no idea. We were afraid to ask for comment.
