Last week, lifestyle blogger Sarah Ruhlman (pictured) took a page from the plot of a forthcoming Robert De Niro–Anne Hathaway movie and posted the following on her blog sarahscoop.com:
I’m looking for one Senior in Life to accompany me to the New York premiere of the Nancy Meyers comedy The Intern, starring Academy Award winners Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. The winner will receive free airfare, two nights hotel stay in New York and one ticket to attend the premiere on Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Ziegfeld Theatre. Learn how to be a social media guru from me!
The deadline for entry is this Thursday night; the winner will be announced Friday. From a report in Lee’s Summit Journal:
“We are trying to find someone who is not active on social media but ready to learn a fresh way to use it,” Ruhlman said.
Teresa Curry of Lee’s Summit is among those who entered the contest. A retired educator, Curry said she definitely needs to learn more about social media and Ruhlman’s contest was the perfect fit for Curry’s quest.
“I am excited about the contest and the possibilities that it brings,” she said. “New York would be fabulous.”
The Intern, which opens Sept. 25, has a typically long Hollywood development history. Before Hathaway, both Tina Fey and Reese Witherspoon were attached to star.
Update (September 24):
Ruhlman has posted an item about the results of her studio-sponsored contest. The woman mentioned in the excerpt above, Teresa Curry, wound up being the winner:
It was so fun seeing Anne Hathaway’s character get Robert De Niro’s character set up on Facebook. We were laughing so hard as we had just done the same thing the day before.
