The two most remarkable things about Sally Field’s Ally for Equality Award acceptance speech at the recent Human Rights Campaign (HRC) dinner in Washington D.C. are how good she looks at age 65 and how measured a contrast her words provided to that infamous “You like me…” Places in the Heart 1985 Oscar acceptance speech.
Lovingly and lengthily introduced by her gay son Samuel Greisman, Field noted that she has never before publicly talked about her son’s orientation. She also, to hearty applause, delivered another memorable sound byte:
“You’ve changed and are changing the lives of little boys and girls who realize somewhere along the way that they’re just different from their other brothers and sisters… A so the f*ck what?!”
STFW indeed. SF FTW!
