Let’s start with this meeting space. Users in the coming weeks and months at SAG-AFTRA’s amalgamated Manhattan offices should be entirely forgiven if they are occasionally distracted by the Lincoln Center view.
Meanwhile, the reception area below may not look that special to the non-actors reading. But for local SAG-AFTRA members, this POV will quickly become thrillingly synonymous with background, foreground and-or voiceover career progress.
It’s easy to forget how contentious the idea of a SAG-AFTRA merger was when first tendered. March 2012 saw this ambitious, logical plan come to ratification and January 22, 2014 heralds the official and very exciting christening of a second, east coast national office to go along with the towering center of operations at 5757 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles.
The New York office design, by LA firm AREA Architecture, is sleek and modern. The address isn’t too shabby either: One Lincoln Plaza, 1900 Broadway. All in all, a great new chapter for a pair of organizations founded respectively in 1933 and 1937. Congratulations.
“I know our New York staff members are thrilled to be in one office,” said New York Local executive director Jae Je Simmons. “We are all especially pleased to have the whole team together in one efficient space that better serves our members.”
