Last month a video of actor Ryan Gosling breaking up a street fight went viral on YouTube, with the original clip garnering nearly 1 million views and getting more exposure on news sources like TMZ, MTV and beyond.  This week, Ryan Gosling spoke out about the video, telling MTV that he is embarrassed about the video and about the entire situation.

If you haven’t seen the viral street-fight video yet, check it out below, and then read on to hear what Ryan Gosling had to say about the incident.  As you can see, two guys are fighting at St. Marks Place in NYC when The Notebook actor comes up to break up the fight.

In a Skype interview with OMGICU, Valerie (the girl that made the video), explains more about what went down that day.  She says that, in her opinion, Ryan saved the day.  She says that he walked up and asked the guy what was going on.  Apparently, one guy had stolen the other guy’s painting.  Ryan asked how much the painting cost and then, upon learning that it was $10 dollars he took out his wallet, handed the guy a $20 dollar bill, and everyone walked their separate ways.

Ryan told MTV, “I’m embarrassed.”  Though he didn’t mention the fact that he was the one that wound up paying for the painting he said, “I think that guy really was stealing that other guy’s painting, so I should have just kept my nose out of it.  It was sad, because it turns out that I said to the guy, ‘Why are you doing this?’  He said, ‘Well, he comes here every day and looks at my paintings,’ which means the guy was a fan, and so he wanted the painting so bad he had to steal it because he couldn’t afford it.  So he finally steals the painting, and then he’s getting his ass kicked by his hero, and then the guy from ‘The Notebook’ shows up and makes it weirder.  It’s just, the whole thing, nobody wins, nobody won.”
