Rupert Murdoch has sent word throughout News Corp. that they should get tough with publicists who won’t make their celebrity clients available to promote the films they star in. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, News Corp. is now putting up a united front against the blockade.
“More and more actors have it in their contract that they don’t want to do publicity for a film. So how are you going to get access to the likes of Katherine Heigl if she’s doing a film but refusing to do interviews,” the story quotes Rebekah Devlin, the company’s entertainment editor-at-large, who talked about the strategy at an advertising conference.
It’s yet to be seen whether this will impact coverage throughout News Corp outlets such as Sky and The New York Post.
