Rumors Hint at Two Separate Apple Launch Events for iPad Mini and New iPhone

The rumors for Apple's products never stop, and today they took a turn for the baroque. A couple different sources are now reporting that Apple plans not one but 2 events this fall. The iPhone is still rumored to be launching on 12 September, while the iPad Mini is now rumored to be getting its own event later in the year. John Gruber of Daring Fireball is the leading proponent of this rumor He writes "I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time. Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage? So I thought, well, maybe they’d only seed the review units of the iPhone on September 12, with the new-size iPad going into reviewer hands a few weeks later." Later in his post he goes on to argue that "I’m thinking it makes more sense for Apple to hold two events. First, an iPhone event, focused solely on the new iPhone and iOS 6. Then, the iPhone ships nine days later, and there’s another wave of iPhone-focused attention as the reviews come out. Then, in the first or second week of October, Apple holds its traditional “music event”, exactly along the lines of the events at which they’ve been debuting new iPods for the last decade. " While I'm still not convinced the iPad Mini is going to be launched this fall I do agree that John has a point. Apple would benefit from having 2 separate events; I would think that's why the iPhone and iPad have been unveiled at different times of the year; it gets Apple more press attention. There is also a second comment on the matter from Jim Dalrymple of The Loop. He was quite cryptic, but he thinks that "Oh that Gruber is a smart fellow." I'm not goping to get too excited, but this is an interesting rumor, is it not? Do you think it's true?
