VentureBeat shared a rumor about a mini-trend for content providers providing iPad app that aggregate news content from sources other than their own. AOL’s Editions app, is an example of this. VentureBeat says that CNN may acquire the news aggregation app Zite.
iPad mag app Zite rumored to be in acquisition talks with CNN with a $20-25M pricetag
While Zite provides an option to connect to Twitter, Google Reader and other services, there is no visible notation indicating that a new item can from the feed. Or, if there is, it is so rarely presented that I have never seen any such indication. Zite provides numerous broad news categories that can be added to a sections list. There’s a Digg-like voting mechanism for each item presented. And, news sources can be voted up (but not down and out). Articles can be shared via Twitter, Facebook or email.
I don’t see why CNN, which already has an app for the iPad, needs to acquire a product like Zite. If they do, perhaps they will use it to replace their existing app since Zite provides more personalization options.
