We just couldn’t resist pointing you toward the English-language version of German newsmag Der Spiegel, which just interviewed Prince Walid Ibn Talal. New Yorkers will remember him as the same Saudi royal whose $10 million check to the city was refused by Giuliani because the prince wanted us to mend our wicked ways right after 9/11.
The reporter gingerly asked the prince (who, incidentally, regards free elections as “tricky,”) whether he was surprised that so many 9/11 hijackers were Saudi. Naturally, Talal was “shocked,” but was let off the hook as to how that’s possible, given how deeply Wahhabiism runs there. Next time, try a follow-up question. Or even try repeating the first question.
