Romney First Presidential Candidate to Run Pricey Twitter Ad

Social ad known to cost $120K

Republican Mitt Romney tomorrow will be the first presidential candidate to ever run Twitter’s promoted trend, an ad unit that costs $120,000 per day. The ad will go live at 3 a.m. Eastern Time Thursday, according to a Twitter spokesperson.

Speaking with Adweek, Peter Greenberger, Twitter’s Washington ad sales lead, earlier today hinted that political marketers may also run the pricey social ad during the Democratic National Convention next week.

Launched two years ago, advertisers taking advantage of the promoted trend unit have typically been Hollywood brands, electronics companies and financial firms.
