This French Mixologist is Headed to Manhattan

For his winning cocktail, Romain de Saussure receives all-expenses-paid trip to NYC.

In 2013, Thrillist described The Prescription Club bartender Romain de Saussure as “the man to know when it comes to cocktails in Paris.” That endorsement rings doubly true in 2015, as de Saussure has just won an international competition sponsored by French vermouth brand Noilly Prat.

From a report in UK’s Bar magazine:

Romain was the winner in a competition that featured 17 bartenders from five countries who were challenged to create the “world’s best-tasting Noilly Prat Classic dry martini cocktail.”

His all-expenses-paid prize trip to New York City will include a visit to the Knickerbocker Hotel, reputed to be the birthplace of the classic Dry Martini cocktail in 1912. After 95 years reused as offices, the building on the corner of Broadway and 42nd Street was reborn as The Knickerbocker in February this year.

Perhaps Romain can guest bartend at a New York joint (or two) during his visit to our fair mixology shores. His winning concoction made use of Bombay Sapphire infused with green olives and rosemary, and a garnish of a grapefruit peel.
