CQ Roll Call's Dennis Named WH Correspondent

Big changes are in store for CQ Roll Call's Steven Dennis. After 17 years in journalism, the publication's House leadership reporter is headed to the White House to fill a spot that's remained vacant since Jen Bendery left Roll Call for Huffington Post in March of this year. But don't expect Dennis to spend his days in the Briefing Room bubble that has become both a luxury and curse for so many White House correspondents. Dennis intends to spend plenty of time on Capitol Hill, using his his experience and resources, to cover the White House in a new way. "I plan to approach the position through the lens of Congress," Dennis explained to FishbowlDC. "Endless stories can be written when you take information from Congress to the White House and focus on the relationships. Gaining the ability to get a response from the administration is a luxury that I intend to exploit," he added. And though he's formed a strategy to get beyond the "bubble," Dennis doesn't take the the job of White House correspondent lightly. He's quick to clarify the importance of the position and challenges his briefing room counterparts face. "Over 300 million Americans depend on those journalists to ask an illuminating question when called on by the White House," he said. "It's a big challenge and a weighty responsibility." On Monday, October 31st Steve Dennis will face his new responsibilities as he enters the Briefing Room for the first time as CQ Roll Call's White House correspondent. He's come a long way from his start at the Herald-Mail in Hagerstown but he seems up for the challenge. Congrats to Steve!
