<em>Roll Call</em>'s Kurtz to E&E, Smith Upped

Charlie Mitchell announced just moments ago that Roll Call Managing Editor Josh Kurtz has accepted a new gig as editor of Environment & Energy Daily, E&E's publication that covers Congress. Taking over for Kurtz at Roll Call will be Katie Smith, the pub's current deputy managing editor. Memo from Mitchell below: Folks, I'm sad to announce that Josh Kurtz will soon be leaving us to take over as Editor-in-Chief at E&E Publishing, where he will run a series of environmental newsletters. Josh has had an extraordinary run at Roll Call, as Politics Editor, Senior Editor and Managing Editor (Operations). He is always first to volunteer for a tough job, he always offers a sympathetic ear, and his advice has been invaluable to me. And, "Politics and Poker" is one of my favorite reads, particularly when Josh is zapping politicians from our homestate of New York. Josh's last day at Roll Call will be Aug. 19. But with the sad news comes some very good news: I am promoting Katie Smith to Managing Editor (Operations). Katie has excelled in her roles as Copy Editor, Copy Chief and most recently Deputy Managing Editor. She will oversee the copy and production teams, and the website, and continue to serve as a valuable adviser on website redesign and other issues. Simply put, Katie makes sure we're right and demands excellence in all that we do. Please join me in wishing Josh all the best in his new endeavor. We will soon pick a time for the traditional sendoff. And join me in congratulating Katie on a job well done and a well-earned promotion. Charlie Mitchell Editor Roll Call Newspaper Update: We've changed our post to reflect Josh's actual title. Charlie Mitchell's memo incorrectly stated that Josh would be the EIC of E&E Publishing. Meanwhile, E&E EIC Kevin Braun jokingly corrected our mistake saying, "That's my gig. I'm sure some folks would like to see me replace myself, but I'm not quite there yet."
