Roll Call‘s Feature Section Gets Content Makeover

Goodbye Botanical Gardens and dust at the National Postal Museum. Hello Capitol Hill lawmakers and the unusual details that have framed their lives: Rep. Howard Coble‘s (R-N.Y.) father mopped floors; Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse‘s (D-R.I.)  worked for the CIA.

In what appears to be a new wave of feature stories that laser in on Capitol Hill lawmakers, Roll Call‘s “Around the Hill” section is going through a phase of major change. A feature story today, for instance, explores lawmakers and  the influences their fathers have had on them. The piece is pegged to House Speaker John Boehner‘s (R-Ohio) father running a bar.

Among the more unusual professions we learn about lawmakers’ fathers: cement washer, barber shop owner and cab driver. Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), an orphan, was raised by an aunt and uncle.
