Social gaming development studio RockYou recently announced its release of Galactic Allies, an RTS game for Facebook. Galactic Allies was developed by 3 Blokes, an Australian-based team owned by RockYou. Can RockYou’s game hit a trajectory? More after the jump.
In this story-driven title, players are be able to navigate through outer space exploring planets and alien races, collecting resources, and building war fleets. Packed with high-end 3D art and high octane PVP gameplay, RockYou has targeted the hardcore niche market, also known as midcore, that is currently dominated by Kabam and KIXEYE.
Earlier this year, we covered RockYou’s purchase of UK-based social gaming Playdemic and TirNua, a game engine developer. RockYou remained acquisition- hungry and swallowed 3 Blokes at the beginning of the summer, further accumulating talent and technologies.
“Galactic Allies is the first game to be launched from our 3 Blokes studio since we acquired them in July,” said Jonathan Knight, SVP of Games at RockYou, “and it brings a new style and quality of play to the Facebook platform. We couldn’t be happier with the passion and creativity in the studio, and the result is something very special.”
Galactic Allies is episodic-centric and features a casual iteration of the RTS (real-time strategy) gameplay. The alien planet landscape will serve as a fantastic layout for missions as the player progresses through a rich storyline accompanied by diverse sci-fi characters. PVP competition will occur at any time, whether the opponent is logged on or not. While Galactic Allies conforms to the standard RTS structure by controlling an assortment of units and ships, the integration with social constructs will provide gamers a unique outer worldly experience.
“Galactic Allies alters expectations for what a Facebook game can be,” said George Fidler, VP and GM at 3 Blokes. “It’s a deep and compelling strategy game, but with the accessibility of a browser game.”
Some key features:
- Battle friends in asynchronous PVP combat.
- Progress through a captivating Sci-Fi storyline
- Explore new planets and alien races
- Mine and collect resources to trade for ship upgrades
- Impressive 3D art
