Holy smokes. To spice up a report wrapped around a recent visit to the hallowed Beverly Hills home and Paramount Studios office of Robert Evans, Lee Cowan’s producers dug up some old footage of Edward R. Murrow interviewing the young, dashing actor. That alone makes this morning’s report a must-watch for fans of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
Happily, the actor who went on to become a studio mogul is still driving the Jag, making jokes and, most importantly, writing after a series of near-fatal strokes 15 years ago. We have not yet had the chance to read his new book The Fat Lady Sang, but judging by the sensational Frank Sinatra chapter excerpted in London’s Telegraph, it’s going to be as memorable as previous memoir The Kid Stays in the Picture.
P.S. At the end of the above video, back in the New York studio, Charlie Rose recalls his encounter with Evans on a plane, circa Love Story.
