Facebook is rolling out an update to its iPad application that features a revamped right-hand column (in landscape mode only), which now includes birthdays, events, Trending and a new My Games section, Engadget reported.
According to Engadget, the Trending module was divided into sections by various publishers and topics, and the games portion of the column includes games being played by friends, complete with “Play Now” buttons, as well as My Games, which enables users to jump right into games they are already playing.
Facebook for iPad product manager Chris Struhar spoke with Engadget about the update, which will begin rolling out Thursday:
It’s showing articles that are popular over the past day or so. Ideally, every day, you’re going to come to this and see a fresh batch of content. We try to rank them and find ones that you engage with most.
We see that people are using the iPad more in the evenings, more to consume media, more to play games. We wanted to take the essence of Facebook and build a right version for that specific interface.
We’re trying to understand how similar or dissimilar (Android tablets) are to iPads … This interface would make a lot of sense on Android tablets, and it’s something that we’re considering.
iPad users: Have you updated your apps yet? What do you think of the new right-hand column?
