The new Harper’s Bazaar, the magazine’s first redesign in 10 years, has been unveiled. Along with way too much Gwyneth Paltrow leg. Yes, that’s Paltrow on the cover, photographed by Terry Richardson.
Glenda Bailey, the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, thought the actress was the perfect choice for the cover, despite the fact that the world has been overdosing on Paltrow since early 2010. “It’s a very daring thing to do, where you don’t immediately see her face,” Bailey told WWD.
Daring? Daring would be putting Pee Wee Herman on the cover with that much skin showing. However, we do like all the white space. Inside WWD reports that Harper’s Bazaar has more changes, but retains its identity:
The magazine is larger by one inch, the paper quality is noticeably thicker and there is new cover typography. Inside the issue, the pages look less cluttered and thrown together, with more white space, while sections are more tightly edited. So far, there’s less celebrity and the related popcorn stories that can come with that. But in some ways, it still feels like the old Harper’s Bazaar. The black logo is the same. The emphasis is still on high fashion.
There is also more Paltrow. She wrote something called “The A List,” featuring things/events that we should all know about. If any of those items has anything to do with Coldplay or cleansing, we will scream.
The updated Harper’s Bazaar hits newsstands February 14.
