RetroPR: FishbowlLA Identifies, Names Culture Industry Trend

Here’s an under-noticed phenomenon. With the churning out of special edition DVDs of old almost-forgotten movies, studios arrange release parties, press events, and so forth. Often, these publicity blitzes feature the stars of said movies, who tend to be even more almost-forgotten than the movies themselves.

Thus, the emergence of DVDs has created a sub-industry I will hereby dub RetroPR (trademark pending), whereby actors who would otherwise be wiling away their days playing golf (if they’re lucky) or wandering aimlessly through some shopping mall in Tarzana (if they aren’t) are trotted out for press tours.
