Thanks in part to last month’s scandal over feminist campaigner Caroline Criado Perez, who was subjected to a barrage of Twitter abuse and whose supporters rallied to her cause by creating a petition for Twitter to institute a “report abuse” button, you can now report individual tweets for abuse or spam directly from Twitter.com.
The user safety enhancement is live on Twitter.com as well as the Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android apps.
Twitter already had a “Report Tweet” button in its iPhone app and mobile website, but no such button existed on Twitter.com, nor its other apps, until now.
And not a moment too soon: as a result of the Twitter abuse controversy in the U.K., Twitter’s Buzz score – positive minus negative reactions – fell from +1 percent on July 27 to -17 percent on August 5, according to YouGov.
Are you glad Twitter has implemented the “report abuse” capability? Do you think it will, itself, be abused?
