Report: Google Will Introduce Paid Subscriptions This Week
Continues to up the ante in original content arms race
Google will introduce paid subscriptions for certain YouTube channels this week, CNET reported. A rumored à la carte service would include up to 50 different YouTube channels, with single-channel subscriptions starting at $1.99 per month.
Google has yet to confirm a release date but confirmed it is working on "a subscription platform that could bring even more great content to YouTube."
Google has already spent upwards of $200 million to create and market premium content in order to compete with other video services in an escalating original content arms race.
