“After the election and the Boston Marathon Bombing it seemed Reddit had reached the mainstream conversation and we thought it was a good time to get a read on general usage,” said Aaron Smith, a Pew spokesman.

Previous Pew studies have shown that two-thirds of Americans use Facebook and between 13 and 16 percent use Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter.
