RD Recap: Janine Gibson Leaves The Guardian; BuzzFeed Loses Eric Harris

Janine Gibson is out at The Guardian. She led the Edward Snowden coverage but didn’t get promoted to the top spot at the publication, losing out to Katharine Viner, who was in charge of the Guardian’s website in the United States. “It is amicable and we wish her the very best,” a spokesperson said of Gibson’s departure. Last year, Gibson was in the news because executives from The New York Times reportedly wanted to hire her, a potential move that played a role in the departure of executive editor Jill Abramson. There’s some speculation that the Times will expand its presence in London, and Gibson would certainly be suited to a role there…

The managing editor of Florida Atlantic University’s paper gets Boca Raton Tribune contributor Fred Hamilton fired and his articles removed from the website after unearthing at least three instances of plagiarism… Andy Grice will leave his job as political editor of The Independent. He’s been at the paper for 17 years… Hearst Magazines Digital Media hires Fit Pregnancy and Natural Health editor in chief Laura Kalehoff as director of the branded content studio. In her new job, she’ll oversee the company’s growing sponsored content division… BuzzFeed loses chief business operations officer Eric Harris, who joined the company as general manager in 2008 when it had just six employees…Read more
