Janine Gibson is out at The Guardian. She led the Edward Snowden coverage but didn’t get promoted to the top spot at the publication, losing out to Katharine Viner, who was in charge of the Guardian’s website in the United States. “It is amicable and we wish her the very best,” a spokesperson said of Gibson’s departure. Last year, Gibson was in the news because executives from The New York Times reportedly wanted to hire her, a potential move that played a role in the departure of executive editor Jill Abramson.
