Haven’t Planned Your Valentine’s Date yet? Use RAVN To Find A Cool Event Near You

It’s Valentine’s Day and the pressure to plan a fun and exciting date is on. If you don’t have a clue about where to take that special someone (or are interested in finding some cool folks to spend the evening with), there’s a new mobile app in town that just may help you plan something out of this world. RAVN Events, which just launched today, calls itself "your personal insider’s guide to your city." Use it to find out what’s going on tonight or this weekend. According to a press release, "urbanites can browse hand-picked activities from a database of over 20,000 events, tours and classes. By offering real-time event discovery and social integration through Facebook and Twitter, RAVN personalizes event search by helping people find local activities, discover new experiences, meet new people or plan a date." I downloaded the app to check it out and while they didn’t have any events listed near me in Tel Aviv (bummer) I did do searches for a bunch of US cities and discovered some pretty great sounding ideas, from a Valentine’s Day sunset cruise to a cheese lover’s cooking class, anti-Valentine’s Day parties, a massive pillow fight and more. What’s cool is that you can also see other people that are interested in the event and check out their profiles. RAVN CEO Jonathan Wu says, "After missing out on a once in a lifetime event while traveling, I witnessed firsthand the need for an easy, centralized app that offers fun and unique activities in cities across the globe. Our new mobile app gives users a curated list of the most popular events in their city that are happening right now. We want to inspire people to get out, live and go beyond the typical dinner and a movie. With RAVN Events, people can find a more personal, one-of-a-kind activity to experience." I asked Wu via email if he could provide me with more detail about the social aspects of RAVN. He told me, "RAVN helps people to connect with others based on similar interests of events and activities. RAVN’s recommendation algorithm learns what people have done and what they are interested in and helps them discover new people like them. RAVN’s search engine is extensive and makes finding the perfect experience easy and simple. People can search by such activity topics as artsy, social, relaxing, active and more. People can further narrow their search by browsing solo, group or date activities and lastly, choose their price range. "Also, by using Facebook connect, people can easily discover what events their friends want to do, automatically get notified when their friends bookmark an event on their wish list and get alerted when friends arrive at an event they are at using Apple’s new geofencing."
