Bertelsmann AG has acquired digital media agency Smashing Ideas for Random House, in a deal whose terms were not disclosed. The transaction closed on May 2.
The acquisition adds to Random House’s digital capabilities and stems from an existing partnership between the two companies. Last September, the two firms teamed up to develop apps for Random House Children’s Books division. The apps Wild About Books and Pat the Bunny, both hit the #1 spot in the books category in the App Store.
Smashing Ideas has made content for Mattel, Nickelodeon, PBS, Cartoon Network and Disney. The company added an ePublishing unit last year, when the iPad launched.
