Rainbowtail Match-Three RPG Launches on iOS

The game sees players recruiting pets which can help them complete regular stages, as well as boss battles.

Developer Minidragon has released its first game, Rainbowtail, on iOS devices. The match-three RPG takes players to a world filled with talking animals and fantasy creatures, and challenges them to free the land from a villain who has stolen the rainbow.

Each level of Rainbowtail challenges players to complete a different goal, from earning a large number of points or clearing sludge tiles by making matches on top of them, to defeating bosses, as examples. Players make matches by swapping the locations of two touching symbols, with the goal of creating lines of three or more identical gems.

Players have a limited number of moves to complete each level. If they finish the objective before running out of moves, they can continue playing to earn more points, or activate a Rainbow Rush mode which turns extra moves into bonus points automatically. Players earn up to three stars on each level, depending on their final score, and can replay stages to earn missed stars.

A pets system sees players activating special pet power-ups as they make matches of four gems or more, or matches in T or L shapes. Each gem color corresponds to a different pet, with each pet having their own ability. As pets appear on the screen, they can be used in matches to clear large sections of gems from the board. In addition, as players make a large number of general matches, they earn the ability to manually summon pets of a chosen color to help them complete stages.

After each level, pets receive experience points in relation to the number of gems cleared of their color during the stage. Pets will level up over time, increasing the strength of their abilities, and players have a chance to collect new pets in eggs that appear during some stages. In addition, players can purchase new, and potentially stronger, pets instantly using Gems, the game’s premium currency (Gems are separate from the gem symbols matched during levels). The game features over 150 pets to collect at launch.

Rainbowtail is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store.
