Please say it isn’t so! Some fashion trends were meant to die on the vine. We think this is one of them.
The Wall Street Journal reports power dressing is back and it’s in full force. And yes, it’s just what you think it is for women at least. Conservative menswear suits to remind us of yesteryear (and by that we mean the ’80s).Per the piece, bold jackets (dare we say fierce for that era? Or perhaps fashion faux pas instead? No, we’re not biased. Really.) will make a gallant return this fall during runway shows. Fashion magazines are abundant with ads from Gucci, Christian Dior and Giorgio Armani to showcase power suits. Contemporary stores have the threads on their racks, too like Ann Taylor and Banana Republic.
What’s the look, you ask? A jacket with tailored pants or a skirt. Apparently the magazines showcase softer lines like more feminine shoulders than the boxy shoulder pad look that reminds us of a linebacker for the Chicago Bears.
Per the newspaper, during a Parisian interview Armani quipped, “Power once, and power now, are very different. Now power can be feminine.”
