This morning, Politico’s Susan Glasser announced several moves, both internal and external, in a staff memo including the return of Charlie Mahtesian from NPR — where he had been political editor and deputy Washington Desk chief.
He will now serve as the senior politics editor, starting February 24. In his new role, Mahtesian will oversee Politico’s coverage of the 2016 campaign, as well as joining their editorial leadership team as an “in-house expert” on American politics.
Glasser also announced that Mike Zapler has been given the nod as congressional editor, having served as politics editor for the last couple years. Zapler’s deputy will be moving as well — Nahal Toosi is making the jump from assistant politics editor to foreign policy and national security reporter.
