Politico Magazine Adds Julia Ioffe as Contributing Writer

Meanwhile, Michael Vasquez joins Politico as education editor.

Politico Magazine adds Julia Ioffe as a contributing writer, announced editor Susan Glasser and executive editor Peter Canellos in an email to staff.

Ioffe had been senior editor at the New Republic before announcing her departure at the end of 2014, part of the mass staff exodus that occurred in response to Franklin Foer and Leon Wieseltier being pushed out by then-owner Chris Hughes and then-CEO Guy Vidra.

Ioffe has most recently served as a contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine, but it was a piece she wrote for GQ, a profile of Melania Trump, that has been getting a lot of attention recently.

And as with many things in Trumpworld, the content was overshadowed by the response, namely, a slew of horrific, antisemitic comments directed at Ioffe following the piece’s publication and Melania Trump’s negative reaction to the piece.
