Police In Scotland Received More Than 2,700 Complaints Linked To Twitter And Facebook Last Year

More than 2,700 crimes, crimes and incidents linked to Twitter and Facebook were reported to police in Scotland in 2013, new data has revealed.

That figure has more than doubled in the past two years, with seven complaints now reported each day on average.

Receiving menacing or obscene messages was the most common complaint, but the report also revealed a number of sexual offences, allegations of stalking, racial abuse and fraud.

6,538 crime reports featuring Facebook and Twitter have been compiled by Scotland Police in the past two years – of these, 5,804 were linked to Facebook.
