From Oct. 20 at noon PDT through Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. PDT, players will be able to encounter a variety of Ghost-type Pokemon, including some that were originally found in the Hoenn region of the Pokemon universe (Gen 3).
Specifically, players will be able to encounter Gen 3 Pokemon such as Sableye and Banette, while previously released “spooky” Pokemon—including Gastly, Cubone, Misdreavus and Houndourêwill have increased encounter rates.
In addition to capturing new Ghost-type Pokemon, this event will also allow players to capture a special costumed Pikachu wearing a witch’s hat.
For the duration of the Halloween event, players will earn twice the regular number of Pokemon Candy when they capture, hatch and transfer Pokemon. Buddy Pokemon will also earn candy twice as fast during this event.
Finally, this event will allow players to dress their avatar in a new item, Mimikyu’s Disguise Hat, as well as purchase special boxes from the in-game store, containing items such as Raid Passes and Super Incubators.
In addition to these Halloween details, Niantic also revealed that additional Gen 3 Pokemon will begin appearing in the game “as early as December.”
Pokemon Go is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. The game has been downloaded more than 750 million times, and it has driven more than 500 million visits to sponsored locations since its launch in July 2016.
Niantic recently partnered with Wieden + Kennedy London to launch an advertising campaign for the game in major worldwide locations. The campaign saw billboards containing gameplay stats appear in New York, Tokyo and London, with some of these billboards being activated as in-game PokeStops.
