Episode developer Pocket Gems and Fox Digital Entertainment have partnered to release an official mobile game based on the third film in the Night at the Museum franchise, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. Night at the Museum: Hidden Treasures is available on iOS and Android devices, and offers players a hidden object experience, which challenges them to find items in the film’s key environments.
In the game, players join Larry Daley and report for their first night on the job as a security guard, where they’re challenged to find hidden relics and discover clues with the goal of saving the museum’s magic from “falling into the wrong hands.” In each timed scene, players look for items on lists, with their speed resulting in combo points. That is, the faster players find items in rapid succession, the more combo points they earn.
If players are having trouble finding an item, they can use tools to help them out. A flashlight, for instance, points out a missing item, while a clock temporarily freezes time.
At the end of each level, players have the chance of earning relics that can be turned in at the security desk for cash. Players use this cash to unlock additional exhibits, and will interact with the franchise’s famous characters, from Rexy the Tyrannosaurus Rex to Theodore Roosevelt, over time.Players spend energy to access hidden object scenes, with energy recharging over time, or being available to purchase with premium currency. In addition, players may need to complete quests by unlocking specific exhibits or completing other tasks in the museum. In the case of unlocking exhibits, players need to wait for these exhibits to be setup, but can speed this process up with premium currency.
“Night at the Museum: Hidden Treasures captures the spectacle and poignancy of the upcoming film, while engaging players with the same adventure and discovery elements that audiences have come to expect and enjoy from the franchise. We’re excited to partner with Pocket Gems to release this brand new mobile game to Night at the Museum fans all over the world,” said Shawn Levy, director and producer of the upcoming film, in a statement. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb hits theaters on December 19.
